I just picked up a 1992 Grady-White Seafarer 22 with the original hydraulic steering it's super stiff at times and I'm considering switching to a fly-by-wire system. I've seen a few setups for sale, so I am just wondering if it's a smart move.

GOing for the fly by wire option is probably the smartest move you'll make for this boat. It's not cheap and these is some work involved, but it's well worth it. Just make sure to doble check it's compatible to avoid problems

Fly-by-wire can really ease steering effort and improve responsiveness, but just make sure your boat's electrical system can handle it, and consider professional install to avoid reliability issues down the road
