2006 Grady White Gulfstream 232 engine mount bolts problem

Hey everyone, my dad's hit a major snag trying to get his old 2 stroke off his 2006 Grady White Gulfstream 232.

Those lower engine mount bolts snapped right off, and now they're stuck flush in the aluminum bracket.

Knowing he's in the Seattle area, I bet it's just years of corrosion bonding them in there.

To make things even worse, he tried using a left handed drill bit on one of them, heated it up a bit, and managed to over torque and snap the drill bit inside the bolt.

So now he's got a broken drill bit stuck in a broken bolt, flush with the aluminum. Double ouch!

I'm trying to help by getting this bracket blasted and repainted for a new 4stroke, so he really needs those bolts out clean.

Has anyone else run into this specific kind of nightmare? Any magic tricks or shops in the Seattle area that specialize in this kind of extraction? we'd really appreciate any help!

EDM can remove both the snapped bolt and the broken bit without damaging the bracket but it's a specialty process. Any chance you've checked with local marine machine shops or engine rebuilders around Ballard or Kent? Some of them offer precision bolt removal services.

A buddy of mine ran into a similar issue with his 2005 boat,he had corroded bolts that were really stuck. After a failed attempt to get them out, he ended up with a broken bit lodged in there too. It took a nearby marine shop with some fancy EDM equipment to remove it without damaging the bracket. If you're in the Seattle area, definitely reach out to some specialists before you try anything on your own

Man, snapping mount bolts is bad but snapping a left-hand drill bit inside a corroded bolt? That's elite-level misery. Honestly, at this point, he's not extracting bolts, he's performing aluminum surgery...call a pro.
