Deck hatches repair

Carved out time finally to deal with a few worn out deck hatches with my husband on our Grady white, there's warped edges, soft spots around the hinges, and one of them sounds like a drum when you step on it, haha, thinking of either rebuilding the cores or going for a full replacement, depending on what I find once they're off
Anyone done repair on the deck before?, we kind of have a plan already but I would like to hear thoughts or suggestions, just like seeking new perspectives basically that I could offer him, its the least I feel I could do basically because I know I wont be doing any manual work

I get where you're coming from. I previously did work on this Grady's aft hatch and ended up replacing the core with Coosa. It's lighter and way tougher than plywood. If it sounds hollow when stepped on, it's probably delaminated. Try to open it up, you'll know right then and there if it's a patch job or a full rebuild.

Great point! Coosa really is a fantastic upgrade. That hollow sound, though, is definitely something to watch out for.

I've tackled a couple on few Gradys, once you pull them you'll know right away if they're worth recoring or just replacing. If the frames are solid, rebuilding the cores works fine, but if the rot looks like it has spread too far, new hatches will save a lot of headaches
